i asked this question last night , and really didnt get an answer so ill try to ask it again. im due march 15th, which was yesterday, they moved my due date from the 25th of march to the 15th. yesterday i was having 5 min apart contractions but at labor and delivery , they sent me home because they wernt strong enough for them to consider it "labor". i went to my regular ob appointment and i was a "tight" 3 cm dilated, 50 % effaced and a -1 station. i asked her if she could rupture my membranes and she wouldnt because i have Strep B, but she did irritate/aggrivate my cervix. i asked her why she did that instead and she said it would make me contract more. she also said i would bleed a little and in fact i did. ive already lost my mucous plug a loooooong time ago, but since she did that , my contractions have stopped. im just so confused. has anyone ever had their cervix irritated/aggrivated on purpose by the doc, and if so , what was the outcome, did you go into labor, how long after ?

Several times and it did nothing for me either.

Relax, you could go two weeks past your due date without any complications, but rupturing your membranes at such a small dilation could cause some complications. Primarily, once your water breaks, most drs want the baby born in a certain amount of time to prevent infection, and if you don't have it by then, you get a csection. Not to mention it causes a really hard labor because then you don't have a normal slow progression, your body goes straight to pushing a baby out of a 3cm hole. The pressure is what causes dilation instead of contractions. It's not pleasant, trust me! I had one with baby #4 after three medical inductions, i was pitocin dependent and that was the only way to break the cycle.

The very end of pregnancy is so hard on the nerves, you're excited for baby to be born, scared and nervous about the delivery and anxious to feel more like yourself again.plus of course dealing with contractions and just waiting for labor to truly begin, it's a lot to deal with. I understand. however since you have group B, if your water breaks you have to be on antibiotics, and they don't want to get stuck having to give you a c-section if not necessary. Now that you are at your due date (and maybe that original date is more like the real one?) they will keep a close eye on baby and make sure that contiuning the pregnancy isn't a risk. a couple days can make a difference in baby being ready or not and needing extra help at birth even at this late stage. I've had a late baby (41.5) weeks and sure I was uncomfortable but she just wasn't ready, they aggrivated my cervix too but it just didn't do anything. They say that sex, walking can sometimes help bring on labor, but who knows.. if you have an orgasm it will aggrivate your uterus causing some contractions. Best of luck to you feel free to contact me if you have further questions
