I'd say your question is right on the mark. I've been dirt poor without a job... but years before that I used to condemn people in the same position. (I didn't even realize how much until I was dirt poor myself). It's very easy to criticize others when you have never been in their position.

Probably although I have heard some people I would not classify as wealthy bad mouth the poor and I believe it is because they know that they are only a few paychecks away from being poor.
I'd love to switch to being a wealthy person. Maybe I can write a bestseller and someone in Hollywood will buy the film rights for a ridiculous some.

I have gone from poor to the point of near homeless to relative comfort and back to poor. Some people just don't know what it is like to struggle. I have a real problem with people that expect welfare to pay them forever. But I also know that in my area we have 8% unemployment. Not everyone on welfare is a bum.
I would love to change places with some of the well off jerks on here who like to tell every one to get a job and stuff like that. The only jobs available around here are in the medical field and require a degree I don't have. All the other jobs were for GM or it's contractors.

A schoolboy in a private school in the UK, wrote a story:-
Once there was a poor family,
The father was poor, the mother was poor,
Even the Butler was poor.
lol
It is ALL down to perspectives!
A wealthy man will look to make his next million,
A poor man will look to make it to his next pay check!
So much for Democracy and Communism, and the distribution of wealth!

I have been very poor and am now middle class. I don't badmouth anyone for being poor, there are circumstances where simply can't be avoided. What I do take exception to is people who use poverty as an excuse for irresponsible behavior, and try to blame their problems on everyone else.
Remain employed and refrain from having children out of wedlock and you will get out of poverty. Its really that simple, and its not a moral judgement, its just economic reality.

I grew up in relative poverty. But I worked hard and got out of it. I only badmouth those poor who are able-bodied but still expect hand-outs from working people. I badmouth the rich because they routinely step on our necks to make a buck, and are willing to take jobs away from hard-working people in order to keep more of their own money.

Either that or they have been poor or wealthy but resent it so much they want to distance themselves from it.

That's a very safe statement to make. It's human nature I think. People always seem to critisize what they aren't.

I think it's relative...you can have a "welfairy" bash someone who's homeless.
For example, take "To Kill a Mockingbird." The Ewells were considered trash...and they considered blacks beneath them!
