I really need to know--instaed of the word "formulas" can I use the word "formulae"???

Yes. In fact, you can use it in the US, too.

You do not need a scientist, you need an English tutor!
And learn the difference between the Singular and the Plural.

I use formulae. It's a matter of preference

formulae is technically correct - formulas is not.

formulae is the plural latin is all.
