I need lots and lots of answers!! My hamster is about a year and a half old. About two weeks ago, I woke because he was squeaking really loud and I picked him up and he kept squeaking, then when i put him down, he was fine! i don't know if this has to do anything at all with it but he stopped eating & drinking 3 days ago. All he's been doing for 3 days straight is sleeping. His breathing is abnormal, it's fast, slow, normal, then it does that again. His face is full of goopy stuff. and he can't even open his eyes. He can't move his back legs either. What's wrong with him and is there anything i can do?? HELP!! ITS URGENT!!!

There can be several reasons for this, but as your hamster is in discomfort he needs to go to a vet urgently. Some hamsters squeak because they don't enjoy being handled, but if he has only started to do this he could be in pain - this and the problems with his eyes and back legs suggets a serious problem.

I wonder who is giving all the people thumbs down for telling you to take him to the vet. That's strange.

Why are you asking people this? You should be smart enough to know you need to take him to the vet, can you afford to take him to the vet? I'm thinking if you have to ask whats wrong with him and what you can do,maybe you can't afford it and hoping there is something you can do for him at home. If you can't afford to take him to the vet, then you shouldin't have a pet.

I really really don't think your that stupid...well..I hope not. Whats going on with him is not normal and you should know that.

1-year ++ consider an old hamster and i'm sorry to say that most probably, your hamster is dying. my hamsters all got the similar symptoms (eye cannot open, breathing hard, could not drink/eat due to fall teeth...) before they died.

bringing you hamster to vet is not going to help. the hamster is too old to receive any medical treatment or operation. some people believe that if a hamster develope tumour/abcess, owner need to take them to vet. but all these will harm an old hamster more...

try to feed your hamster with something soft (most probably your hamster's teeth fall out and couldn't chew on hard food), i used to soak bread in milk, or drip the milk into their mouth to feed them. or maybe you can consider to put your hamster to sleep if your hamster is too suffer...

he's probably got some kind of infection and so should see a vet. However, his back legs are not working so he may have had a stroke and need to be put out of his misery. I suspect the latter.

Aw, sounds like he is very sickly. You should go to the vet with him right now if you really want to try to save him, it sounds like he is suffering, he will definitely die if he is not eating or drinking and you don't do anything about it.

Take him to the vet NOW! When my old hamster , Bramley , couldn't move his legs it was because they were paralysed by his tumour that we didn't know he had. The vet had to put him down :(

it sounds like a stroke to me, i would definitly take him to a vet, especially as hes not eating and drinking. a vet is the only option if you don't want him to suffer any longer.
