the IQ test is scaled for children to conform to adult values, and anything over 100 is considered above normal.

With that in mind, I should point out that IQ test is widely considered an inaccurate measure of anything other then a possible cognitive deficiency.

In other words, the IQ test was only created to measure people with below normal IQ's to help provide them extra assistance. It really isn't meant to be used as a predictor or measure of intelligence for anyone other then people with cognitive deficiencies.

While saying that the IQ test is inaccurate for anyone without cognitive deficiencies is my opinion and is unproven, it is a fact that it was created and intended for diagnosing people with a cognitive deficiency and nothing else. So it'd be wise to consider this when evaluating the result of your childs test.

the conventional IQ is one hundred. The IQ isn't a static concern and could be better by using taking IQ tests. The IQ attempt they gave him is probable for 10 12 months olds... they regulate it with the age bracket. So if he's not inspired then the IQ keeps to be stagnant. additionally, there have been circumstances the place the minds of the youngsters have been inspired and the IQ has better dramatically and then they create the youngsters decrease back to the preivous ecosystem and that they see the IQs falling decrease back to their unique baselines. So save that for the time of concepts too. workout will boost IQ factors. there became a learn accomplished in Oxford that confirmed that scholars who exercised had 10 IQ factors bigger than people who did no longer. yet all that being stated, the IQ isn't the considerable element in direction of fulfillment of a man or woman. it may purely anticipate a man or woman's fulfillment by using 25%. The EQ (emotional quotient) is extra considerable and might anticipate the fulfillment of a man or woman as much as seventy 5%. advance the EQ and you could have a extra happy properly rounded infant. advance the IQ purely and you could have a great nerd on your palms :)

Your child's IQ score falls into the category generally referred to as High Average Intelligence (110-120). It means that your child's cognitive development is somewhat more advanced than that of most of his peers. Thus, he has proven that he has potential. Bear in mind, however that as children grow up, their IQ scores tend to change too (they usually decrease). For psychologists, it is a challenge to accurately determine the IQ of children, because their brains are constantly developing. I respectfully disagree with the comment made earlier, however, that IQ tests are only good for identifying people with developmental difficulties. Although that was their initial purpose, they are as equally good at determining whether a child is "gifted" and are currently the only viable option used for that purpose.

To sum up, here's a general reference chart for interpreting IQ scores:

140+ Extraordinary intelligence
130-140 Very superior intelligence
120-130 Superior intelligence
110-120 High average intelligence
90-110 Average intelligence

I wish you child all the best!

In reply to Will, the IQ test was actually devised to assess academic ability. Unfortunately, it is not a great predictor of this, but it was not originally devised to test for Cognitive deficiencies. There are organic tests that are far more efficient in doing this.

118 is above average for any age (the score is graded according to age). My advise in dealing with your gifted children is to let them set the pace for learning, and to make it fun for them.

Raising gifted children is a challenge, but there are plenty of books on how to cope.. I imagine that both your children have similar intelligence levels, so you're likely to have a lot on your hands. Good luck!
