Have dinner, take a walk in a park or downtown window shopping. Go to a coffee shop, a quiet classy bar, wander through a bookstore- you could learn a lot about eachother there!
Make it a lunch date and have picnic, make it an early date and watch the sunrise, then get breakfast.
Think of things that wouldn't completely occupy the time. like a movie does, but will instead give a background and atmosphere to the encounter.

Don't make it so hard just go to a park or a book store, walk around a mall , It is after all about discovering the other persons personality. what makes them tick what's their pet peive what makes them happy, sad what is their philosiphy on marriage, death, raising a family, politics etc. Do they have a sense of humor go to spencer's in the mall just see if you mesh well together. Then let the good times roll!
