Failed one test a while back and have had loads of private practice because hourly fees of driving instructors was prohibitive. Now finally got enough money for a four-day course with a test at the end. Any tips on calming my nerves, eradicating mistakes etc? Cheers...oh if you've ever been on a residential course how was it?

Use your mirrors. My first driving instructor didnt tell me to use my side mirrors and after failing with HER three times I then changed to someone else and passed first time with him. Try not to panic this wont help. It took me a while before I passed (more than the four I meantioned cause I tried to learn from my dad and uncle as well lol) The time I passed I was at the point where I though I dont care if I pass which meant I was calm. But I did consentrate more. You need to be on the ball when your driving and not be too slow or too fast. A good driving instructor will be able to give you tips about what the examiner is looking for. The first few times I tried the examiners were more focused on manouvers and would want them to be better than normal. Where as the time I passed they were more harsh on marking with speed (they didnt want you to be to be slow). Obviously they mark you as normal but they always have something that they are gonna be more strict on.
Good Luck im sure you will do fine.

You have to find the right instructor for you. Look for a single driver school that has been in one area for some time, check them out with former pupils.

Don't drink alcohol, coke or coffee. Keep away from things that stress you out and get lots of sleep.

Just try and relax and enjoy it.
