Because McDonald's will hire almost anyone, it's usually the first job someone gets, at minimum wage, and people tend to look down on it because it's considered the lowest starting point.
Mickey D's is a great American institution, and a great start for people, with opportunities to grow within the company. They even hire retirees that couldn't work anywhere else because of age discrimination. I think people should see it as an honorable job....... at least it's honest clean work.

i have no clue as someone who watched all my big brothers spend years working there i can honestly say that they would come home exhausted after a hard days works, keep in mind that someone who sticks to working at McDonald's for 6 months or more with a good reference for the manager of course when applying for a different job will get said job easier than someone who did not work for the McDonald's franchise simply because of the energy and patience it takes to work in McDonald's because its so fast paced...in other words if you can make it at McDonald's you could make it anywhere...besides a job is a job and anyone who has the heart to get up in the morning to earn there keep deserves my respect and will always have it...

It's a stereotype... similar to every sold at K-mart is equal to junk.
But in general, working most retail type jobs like being a cashier is tied with lower pay. And this type of job does not require any special skills or prerequisites.

Because there are not very many prerequisites to work there. Most people that do exceptionally well in fast food move on to better jobs.

Pay....only the young just starting out still in school, dropouts who can't get a job anywhere else, or the elderly loking to supplement their ss income would work there. But that may not fly much longer w/minimum wage increasing?

I don't want to offend you- if you work at Mc Donalds, but I think it is considered the lowest because they provide the lowest quality food and have pushed themselves into so many international arenas, homogenizing food culture. Truth to be told, like starbucks, the quality has increased and they now offer salads and small side portions for the nutritionally enlightened. Yet the stigma remains- They come in, put up the arches and the community suffers. People are dying because they eat too much of the wrong foods.
