I gave my 5mth old cat a bowl of diced ham early this week and now like 3 days later he seems exhausted, weak in back legs and just not his normal self? Could this be because of the ham? It wasn't off/old. He's an inside cat? He is fully vet checked and up to date with needles and worming. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cats can eat pork but I'm not sure about ham. If your cat is showing such severe symptoms there are any number of things that could be causing this it may not be the ham atal. Even if a cat is up to date with everything worm & jab wise etc they can still go suddenly ill for seemingly no reason just like we can. In this case as your cat is so exhausted & week in the back legs I would definately not delay & take him/her to the vets as soon as possible. They can then find out what the problem is & deal with it meaning you don't have to worry anymore.

regards

Yes, you can feed them pork but don't feed a lot of ham. Ham has been cured either with sugar or salt and can cause diarreah if they get too much. Other cuts of pork such as chops or ribs are fine as long as they are fed RAW, not cooked. To find out more about how good feeding raw food is for your dog visit www.rawfed.com

In limited quantities. That meat has a lot of fat, and dogs and cats need protein. Our cats get nothing but Meow Mix dry food, and are doing fine.

Maybe his digestive system wasn't quite ready for the ham or the preservatives caused an allergy. Hope he gets better!

it's not really a good thing as it's so fatty. But my cat goes mad for bacon, so I let her have it as an occasional treat, but I think as a rule you should stick to meat like chicken or lamb.
I'm not well up on kittens - at five months, could your cat be a bit young to be on such 'adult' food?

A 5 month -old shouldn't be eating "table" food yet. Generally speaking cats aren't supposed to eat our food, but occassionally as a treat adult cats can be give small amounts.

You can feed them this but maybe it just didn't agree with your kitty, much like some foods do to us. I just wouldn't give her this type of meat for a while to make sure.

its not good to feet cats/dogs ANY table food, their digestive system isnt like ours and they have a hard time with that..stick to animal food...dry preferably...i volunteer at the local animal shelter and didnt know this until i started working there

Both cats and dogs should never eat human food. Because our food is filled with preservatives and tons of other stuff that animals should not eat.
A Hershey bar we can eat, feed a dog it, and hes dead. True fact!
