i would recommend sociology because there are many more subjects that there are to choose from and that you could have interest in. a lot of the subjects do deal with religion so you would be getting technically both in a way of thinking about it

Sociology is a really interesting and you discuss a lot of present day issues as well as the past....so it is easy to relate to and understand most of the topics. I just graduated from college last spring with a major in sociology. I think it is a good major because you are not limited to one career choice. I have some sociology friends that went into insurance jobs, business, some went on to get their masters for teaching, others into more police type jobs. I went to a catholic college, so I did take a number of religion classes. I would say I am a religious person but not to the extent that I could study it so in depth. I feel like it can get a little boring. I would try to think of some career paths you would like to take and base it on that. Good luck....choosing what to study is a tough decision. But most people go into something completely different afterwards anyone...so be open and do what really interests you.

I personally think sociology is the discipline of the future reason being is that the understanding of human interaction is important to help solve or at least alleviate human concerns. I think man is the measurement of all things. this is important. religious studies is not a waist of time and is a powerful subject to study, however it will just only lead back to sociology anyway.

the two ideas can be very closely intertwined. it is impossible to study one without mention of the other. religions are inspired by people and situations (which, in a sense, can be seen as sociology), and people are in turn influenced by religion, resulting in sociology. either way, you'll end up learning about both.

Sociology. There will ALWAYS be lots and lots of studies and researches to do in that field. Because societies change, people change, behaviours change, etc.
BUT, you have to listen to your gut feeling... What makes you happy? Because you will be doing it for like thirty years after you get your degree...
Good luck!!

I think tat you will find social sciences to be quite interesting. Also there are numerous avenues and opportunities that present themselves in the social sciences. As for religion, I think it is a way for some contrite pant-load to try to control you. Just listen to some of their spew. As a matter of fact, if you choose to pursue the social sciences, you could study them anyway.

For you I would say sociology to earn money to help support your family, and go to church, participate in home groups to learn about the Bible.

they both have similarly high values to me and come out fairly even; but i still veiw religious studies more important to me than sociology, eventhough human social interaction is still important. ultimatly the choise is yours, and our opionion should have no effect on what your desision is.
