My daughter is on enfamil A.R. (thicker formula). Since the formula is so thick, the nipple gets clogged a lot, no matter how I prepare the formula. I am trying the canned version now and was wondering if anyone has heard if there is any difference or if one is better. When comparing the vitamin content on the back, it is pretty much the same. Thanks!

If you bottle feed your baby, ask your doctor what kind of formula is best for her.
There are three ways formula is sold:

1.Powdered formula is the cheapest. You have to mix the powder with sterilized water.
2.Concentrated formula is a liquid, but it is thick and must be mixed with sterilized water. It costs more than powdered formula.
3.Ready-to-feed formula comes already mixed with water. It costs the most but is the easiest to use.

Follow formula mixing instructions carefully. There is a date on the formula. Don't use the formula after this date. The formula will not be safe to give to your baby after this date.

Wash reusable bottles made of plastic or glass. Also wash all equipment used to prepare formula. Use hot soapy water. Rinse the bottles in clean tap water. Then boil them five minutes in a covered pot or sterilizer.

To prepare formula, boil water for five minutes and cool it before mixing it with powdered or concentrated formula. If you are using bottles with disposable liners, throw away the liner after use. Store prepared formula in the refrigerator and use it within 48 hours.

Heat a bottle of formula by running hot water over it. Never heat formula in the microwave. It can get too hot. Check the temperature by shaking a few drops on your wrist. When it feels warm (not hot) on your wrist, it is cool enough to give to your baby

All Formula is created equal (same brand, powder, concentrate or ready to use.)

If the nutrition information on the back is the same, there is no real difference there. The difference would just be based on preference, consistency, and ease of use. Were you mixing the powdered formula good enough or did you have clumps left in it? That's a problem I had occasionally when I used powdered formula. If you still are wondering, ask your daughter's doctor what he/she prefers.

Not sure if there is a difference or not as I have never used that brand......BUT my youngest daughter has a swallowing defect that she has to use commercial thickeners added to all of her liquids. When she was still on the bottle what we used to keep it from getting clogged was a needle....the hospital gave us an IV needle to use....and used the stage 3 nipples. The needles provided a big enough hole but did not tear the nipple causing too much to come out at once and choke her.

I've used the cans with my kids 10 & 8 and switched to powder because it has been proven to be economially easier who are 4,2 & 3 months and they all are healthly with plenty of energy to drive me nuts. i.e. with my experience powder is slightly less thicker you can tell the difference in the color but it works the same!

powdered formula is not sterile. it is not good for premature babies or babies with a weakened immune system. Other than that...I think they are the same.
