We are setting up an issue tracking database and want to have three (3) basic statuses: New, In Process, and Closed. Some members of the team think that instead of using "In Process" we should use "In Progress". Seems petty, of course, but, just curious if there are any wordsmiths out there that would like to chime in on this.

Just my 18 cents:

A process, in the software engineering context, is a defined set of tasks for something.

I think you should use In Progress for those individual tasks, and In Process when you've chosen to apply a process to a given situation.

We use Remedy here and it says "In Progress." That's what I suggest using.
