If you have a dinner party at home, it's more convenient for you to sit nearest the door so you don't have to walk round your guests/ table to get to the kitchen for the 2nd course. Or as you said, having to get up in the middle of the night several times would be easier sleeping nearest the door. If you don't need to do any of that, maybe better sleep on the side farther from the door, let your husband deal with the burglar!

If you need to sleep closest to the door then the most common thought is that you see yourself as the 'protector'. You come between whatever may come through the door and the person in the room with you. It's usually more common with men. If they can't sleep and they change to the side of the bed nearest the entry point (doorway, big window etc) then they sleep more easily.

Possibly. I have never liked to be confined.
I am pretty much the same way, but I also always prefer to sit with my back to a wall and face the room.
I'm not a very trusting soul.....
