They have enablers just like heroin addicts who help them in their addcition. Someone brings them food and cooks for them. That is something I struggle with also. Many of them are married so their spouse must be feeding them. If you saw your spouse getting so big that they could not get out of the bed would you continue to feed them fatty, processed foods? It's crazy to me. Also many of them collect disability and SSI checks. They are usually actually disabled because many health problems come with being obese.

I am obese, though not bed bound by a long shot. I do weigh over 300 pounds. Some is genetic, some is just plain old poor eating habits. Yes, I'm the rare fat person that will admit that I don't eat healthily. That being said, I pay less than $100/month for food. That's all I can afford. The problem is, junk food is so much more accessible and affordable. Go look around any grocery store. Fresh fruit and vegetables are twice as expensive as chips and candy. I can't afford to eat healthy. I try, with what limited funds I do have, but it's hard.
I know that isn't exactly what you're talking about, but I hope it gives a little bit of insight into it.

I can't answer all your question but I do know that a lot of the obese people in the west are poor and a lot of cheap food is horribly fattening and unhealthy. Children in the UK now are being diagnosed as undernourished yet at the same time they are overwight. They are eating food with no goodness in it, just sugar, fat and other horrible things. Poverty is linked to obesity in the west. Weird or what, but then you must have noticed how thin the rich are who can afford to eat good food.

They have someone else "taking care" of them, giving them food and paying the bills...although i really don't think its helping them at all, I cannot help but feel sorry for those who are so big that they cannot even get out of bed...

People (friends and family) actually enable them by bringing food to them. Either that, or their on welfare of some kind and have someone around who shops and cooks for them - maybe a wife or husband or child.

They apparently have way more money than I do.
And I have always wondered, who is it that is feeding them and cleaning them if they can't get out of bed?
Maybe I am cruel, but if I were in the situation of having to take care of them and provide, I think they would get a normal calorie diet, and if they whined they were still hungry, I would tell them to get up and fix it themselves.
Hunger does diminish after a few days.

obesity is a leading cause of many diseases...some of these diseases are sufficient enough to allow disability payments...DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND...obesity, in and of itself, is no longer a viable diagnosis for disability payments...with disability, one is usually given food stamps, and a medical insurance program(medicaid, medicare, mediCAL)no, they aren't heroin addicts--who, by the way, do not always steal to support the habit--they must eat. one cannot just not eat, akin to just not doing heroin...it is a severe problem in my country...but, you brits got your own issues, right-o, then? btw, unemployment checks do not continue indefinately...there are time constraints...
unasked for advice: develop empathy, and compassion--or, you are doomed....karma always listens....

Many of them collect unemployment checks, and that all goes to food. Also, family & friends likely provide them with food too. It's so sad :-(
