I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that, but I can definitely see how that would be annoying. Good for you for defending the English language!

Well many people use ignorant in the wrong context. Ignorant doesnt mean rude, it means "not knowing" pretty much. Like if you said "birds only fly at night" you'd say "you're so ignorant"

a lot of people think ignorant means to be rude but it means not to know about something having an absence of knowledge instead of a rude person being called ignorant you can use ill mannered or no home training or just plain stupid you did read the meaning right

rude and ignorant are not synonyms. Ignorant means lacking knowledgle and rude means impolite behavior.

That is exactly what you should say - tell them "YOU are ignorant, you are ignorant of the definition of the word "ignorant"!". LOL!

Perhaps this someone knows that, to you, being called ignorant is a greater insult that being called rude. (You may even enjoy being rude, right?)
