The pill is fine long term, as has been proven over the decades. However, get your doctors opinion based on your health.
Also, check out the Nuva Ring. My gf has been using it for a year, and it works great for anyone with side effects from the pill.

You don't give your age, this would have had bearing on your question. It would also be important to know if you are a smoker, because that increases the risks of clots on the pill.
Generally there is no particular reason why the pill needs to be stopped before 37 in a non smoker or about 34-35 in a smoker.
Remember as you get older your fertility will fall and this should be taken into account as you plan the start of your family.

The pill (in modern forms) has no effect on future fertility, although it can sometimes hide conditions (like PCOS) that may impact fertility. If you have normal periods without the pill, though, you should have no problem regaining your fertility soon after going off the pill when you are ready.

I was on the pill for about 15 years on and off. I had to stop when I got to 30 though on docs advice.

I was on it from age 17 to 26 and I didn't suffer and problems (at least none I am aware of)... Only came off it to start a family, no concerns were ever raised by my GP. xx
