It depends on the state of the asbestos containing materials. If it is just siding or drywall or something that is in good condition, it's no big deal. Those materials are common and the asbestos is contained - it won't get into the air. If the materials are broken or torn or, for example, asbestos insulation is falling out of your ceiling, those conditions need to be dealt with properly.
Really, the only time when asbestos is a problem is when materials are being broken and the asbestos is being released. If this is not the case, then your apartment is perfectly habitable.

The answers you've gotten so far... Such as "it should be removed immediately" are false. Asbestos will not hurt you if you aren't tearing it up and breathing it in. Asbestos is in most schools in the country, most offices, and most older homes. You will be hard pressed to get away from it.
If you are worried about it, just leave it alone. It will only cause you problems if you disturb it, and breath it in in large quantities. Canada still produces materials with asbestos in them. The stuff isn't as bad as TV lawyers want you to believe.

Go straight to the environmental office and report it - it should be removed immediately. Also have a full medical check-up, tell your doctor your apartment has asbestos. Good luck
