You get Ghost Rider when you visit the Hell level in Act II.
There's a section in Hell where you find Ghost Rider tied to a rock platform. After you break the links of the four chains holding him, you come back down and read from a book that's next to Ghost Rider's body.
That's when the game gives you an option to sacrifice one of your characters to free Ghost Rider. If you do this, Ghost Rider becomes part of your team and the character you sacrificed won't be available until after you defeat Mephisto at the end of the level.

Kids can handle WAY more spooky images than they could (say) 20 years ago (especially 11 yr. olds). I have 9 yr. old (well adjusted) students who LOVED Ghost Rider. The language was not too bad at all. I saw it...I think he'll be OK.
