Yep you can watch hd dvds on your 360, but you need to buy the add on drive. I think its like $199
This being said, it is the cheapest hd dvd player you can get right now probably, other hd players will cost you $350 and up last time I checked, but you should get what you want and what is more practical to you. Just think of it like the ps3, its the cheapest blu ray player you can get.

My husband and I watch DVDs on our xbox 360 all the time. We didn't buy the DVD remote either - the game controller works just fine.
