I have two jobs currently. The first is working Saturdays and Sundays as a commissioned sales associate for the Lands' End Shop at Sears. There, I make $6.00/hr base + 3% of any Lands' End merch I sell. On Sundays, I make $9.00/hr base + 3% comm.

The second job I work for is a Manufacturing plant, working a pretty nice desk job as a Transportation Analyst in the Logistics department. My bosses there are extremely nice, and my wage there is $12.50/hr. I work there September - Early May every Tuesday and Thursday, and during school breaks, and during the summer full time.

Lands' End recently decided to do away with commissioned sales, so now they are giving their employees an average of what they usually would make on comm. My rate there is now going to be $13.88/hr, and $20.82/hr on Sundays. The only question there will be how many hours I will be guaranteed.

I've been with the $12.50 job for almost a year now; how much of a raise should I ask for?

One thing that makes me want to ask for the raise now is that my current boss will be relinquishing his position to a different boss effective April 1st. The new boss I know is a lot more difficult to work with and is trying to slash costs everywhere.

3-5% is good, 1.5-3.5% is more the norm. Ask for 5% ($0.62) so that you'll have some breathing room.

Keep in mind that some places automatically give raises after a year. That's what happens in my job, so wait until you actually reach a year and check out your paystub. You may already have gotten one.
