I would go back to shortly after the big bang and create some strategic 'ripples' in the matter of the early expanding universe. These would eventually cause galaxies to develop in a pattern which when viewed from Earth in the early 21st century spell out the message "Hi there, the question is ghjaa dasha66&& glie&** %g37g g^876 h4q^ *gJg kyutaewy ? And by the way, the answer is 42".
Would be good for a laugh.

Events that had taken place are destined to occur no matter what. We may prevent Kennedy from being shot, but that event was destined to occur, so it may be another time and another person but that event was destined to happen. same with Hitler, and the same with Columbus discovering America.
Taking technology into the past to make money will not work. It is one of those things that builds upon itself, so for example the microchip was dependent on the transistor and the shrinking technology. The transistor was dependent on the vacum tube technology, which was dependent on the technology to create a vacum. So to take a microchip to the 1920's for example, would be useless since the technology to recreate it don't exist.
The technolgoy to drill and harvest oil in the early 1800's would be useless also. Or a solar cell during the civil war.
To steal an idea that someone else would have come up with during a specific time does create the problem, like cheating on one's homework. You may knw what it is, and be able to sell it, but then you do not have the understanding that person does. How wil you handle repairs or other hard times in getting to the point of being profitable. Nothing comes easy, is the lesson. In fact, through your mishandling that technology may be proven worthless during that time period. It may not be revisited for another generation or so.
I think, the future cannot change the past, nor can the future steal from the past. At best, the future can witness the past.

Oh a good Question.....I would definetly fix some problem I created when i was 18. If I could go back to the past. I also would try to save my cousins life....she died waaayy tooo young.
If I could go to the fututre I would try to learn something that I could profit on. Like getting good at a new technology. Sure i could cheat and get the lottery numbers but what fun would that be. I would like to be challenged. Great Question!!!

I really don't know.
Suppose I went back in time to tell myself the winning lottery numbers.
Then in this time, I would be so rich (from winning the lottery) that there would be no reason to go back and do this.
Suppose I'd go back in time and kill Hitler.
Then history would be different. Would it be better? Or would we have an even bigger idiot starting his own World War 2? Maybe that other idiot would be a few years behind Hitler, so the Atomic Bomb would be further developed, and several countries would actually get to use it - especially when they became desperate.
I would probably not exist myself because my parents would never have met. So who would go back to kill Hitler then?

If I could go back then there would be no wars no terrorists and no **** governments no peadephiles, murders, rapist and generally bad people.
And the future would be full of love and peace and exeptance for all creeds and nationalities and just good people.
I WISH!
Peace.

At the risk of sounding boring, i wouldn't change anything. All the mistakes i have made (and they've been plenty) i've learnt from and i think that your life experiences help to shape who you are

When you go back in time, you do not 'rewind' time, meaning you can't go back a week and expect everything to be like it was a week ago. Similarly, going forward in time is not like fast forwarding, it won't represent the actual future without intervention.
I think it's funny that many would want to erase all their mistakes - not me, those mistakes make me what I am today. They are probably my most valuable asset :)
