To agree with everyone else, the marks don't show the intelligence of the person and that is why standardized tests have received so much bad press lately. Some students know the information but don't test well, so they have low scores. Some students don't know anything and just memorize the information for the test and forget everything once they put their pens down.

But you have to consider beyond just educational knowledge. There's book smart and there's street smart. A street smart person knows how to talk to people and get what they want. They might not have a PhD but they will open successful businesses and sometimes earn more that a person who was really smart in school.

Knowledge is how u define it! What U consider knowledge and what as not is not the real picture!! Knowledge is something that is abstract and too vast to be assessed or judged... Knowing something is knowledge... Marks can be got either by mugging or by understanding the subject... there's a difference as to which of those are knowledge right?!! Some people just learn from what they hear in their classes and dont need to necessarily mug their brains out, yet score good marks. It is only the capability of retaining knowledge and the ability to use it productively in the long run that decides if a person is knowledgable as such... Each person has their own levels of knowledge in different things... For example, a person might be a genius in some things and a dumbo at other things, that does not make him/her either smart or a fool... Knowledge in their own respective fields to each person is respected and appreciated by others, and their failure at other things are looked as a normal trait of being human... NOBODY can know EVERYTHING then we'll be GOD!!.. that is the fact of life... Life is a journey and process of learning from experience, and knowledge is a neverending factor in our life which should not be estimated or underestimated... Anyone and everything is valuable in their own way, ur grandma's dish which no one could match is her knowledge, while she may not know what a computer is... So relax and enjoy whatever U know for it is after all knowledge... Be happy with what u know and be humble enough and have an open heart and mind to learn... Knowledge used for productive purposes is good, while knowledge used for destructive purposes is bad... God bless!

No, marks will certainly indicate the ability to grasp whatever is taught & sincerety of individual in attempting the test . It also indicates the ability to express and explain the views & knowledge of a specific subject. However for measuring anything some sort of marking on a given scale is a must.

Marks may be part of Knowledge. Without marking how anyone can judge someone's ability. Marking is a easiest mode to judge someone's efforts or knowledge.
In our routine life there are many occassions where no one will mark our knowledge only judge the ability for their own information.
