I ate them too, but I believe it is because of the nitrates in the hotdogs that are potentially harmful.
Check out this article below
Nitrates and nitrites
"The potential risk of nitrates and nitrites for all people, including pregnant women, has been blown out of proportion," says Pari-Keener. Additives such as sodium nitrite, found in hotdogs, cold cuts, and other processed foods, are used as a preservative to combat botulism, a deadly food-borne illness. Once nitrates are digested, they can potentially form possibly carcinogenic nitrosamines. The good news is that the formation of nitrosamines can be prevented by vitamin C. Food manufacturers have started adding antioxidants like ascorbate and sodium erythrobate to address the problem. Or simply use the opportunity to eat some much-needed fruit and veggies or soy versions of hotdogs and cold cuts, many of which are good sources of vitamin C, calcium and protein. A better reason to avoid foods with nitrites or nitrates is that they tend to be high in fat, which you definitely don't need.

I have never heard anything about hotdogs. IM sure they're the same as all other deli meats. They are full of sodium so if you have a lot of swelling (edema) you should stay away from them but they wont have any harmful effects on the baby - well as far as I know, I ate TONS!! I know you're supposed to stay away from sushi, that is a NO NO but that's about it as far as I remember (well along with no alcohol or too much caffine! GOODLUCK AND CONGRATS

I have had this worry too! I crave hotdogs constantly! :) I looked up the info, and basically found that as long as they are piping hot, they are fine! The worry is eating them cold or lukewarm, because of various bacteria. It's the same for deli meats. I don't eat them every day, but when I do, I just make sure I heat them up very good. I asked my doctor about this, and he just laughed . . .he's a neonatal specialist . . .and said, "Yes, you're fine!"
BTW, why do people give negatives, or "thumbs down," for perfectly reasonable answers?? I hate this part of the forums here. It makes no sense whatsoever. If someone answers based on their personal experience and what they have learned, no one has the right to "thumbs down" anything they say. No one is an expert here, we're all just trying to help each other. But whatever!

Hotdogs are like lunchmeats in the fact that while you are preg you need to heat them to steaming before you eat them. There is a small but definite risk of contracting listeriosis if you don't. This is very harmful to your baby. They are not great for you anyway due to high sodium and nitrate content, but just be sure to heat them well first and you will be fine...Enjoy.

It's definitely ok to eat hotdogs during pregnancy. If they are fully cooked. While they are full of preservitives and fillers, which isn't that healthy, there is nothing wrong with eating hotdogs if that's what you want! :)

I also have hot dog cravings! As long as they are well-cooked, they are okay in moderation. Hot dogs have a lot of unhealthy preservatives, however. If you have a Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or an equivalent store nearby, look for nitrate-free hot dogs. They taste like a regular hot dogs and you can make your own yummy hot dogs at home whenever you like.

I ate whatever I wanted with my 3 pregnancies and my doctors told me as long as I had a balanced diet I'd be fine. Eat what you crave!! This is probably the only time it's ok to do that..lol..lol.

Processed and Deli meat have a higher risk of containing listeria a bacteria that can harm your unborn child.
Pregnant women and the elderly are at more risk than the general population to listeria bacteria.
However you can greatly reduce your chances by washing fruit and vegs before consuming and heating or reheating deli meats up to scalding rather than just warming them
