You are obviously not a fan of American football. To answer the question, yes it should be renamed to avoid confusion with the sport properly named football, which we call soccer. As to a proper name, that is one to be hashed out by fans of the sport.

actually, to every who made guesses abvove as to the origin of the name, football was so named becasue when the game was invented there was no forward pass. it was entirely played on the ground, on your FEET, running the ball forward.

American football was so named because it was based on rugby, where points were scored by kicking. In the 1800s, the dropkick was very common, and few touchdowns were scored. So historically speaking, no.

i wuold say no. its been named football for years and years. you do kick a little bit. and to avoid confusion why dont they rename european football soccer? it would make more confusion to rename it cause people are used to football. it would take a long time for getting used to tackleball or something
