Homicide: Life on the streets...there was a coroners assistant on there named "Shiner." Who was he?

I know this is really a long shot, but I'd like to know a little more about him. It looked like he had suffered a stroke or something. Any info? Trust me, I tried looking it up myself but I am having absolutely NO luck.

The actor who portrayed M. E. Dr. Scheiner, was Ralph Tabakin. He was born Sept. 22, 1921 in San Antonio, Texas, and died of heart disease May 13, 2001 at Silver Springs, Maryland. He had two daughters.
