There is no question of underestimating Sikhs. They are one of the most religious and brave people. I admire their sense of hard work and courage because I have never found a Sikh begging. They are the people serving in those areas where other people will not readily enter, like transportation, army, navy and like hard working vocations. They have a rich history, rich culture, rich diet, rich sense of hospitality. I have always found them true to their inner beliefs and honest in their work style.
As for being at the centre of jokes, I feel that not only Sikhs but other communities as well, like Marwaris, Sindhis, Gujjus, Bhaiyyas (UP Bihar wallas), Madrasis, Bengalis all have jokes made on them. It may be that Sikhs have more jokes than any other communities. I find that every caste and community is ridiculed or made butt of jokes due to their special sense of dressing, eating, behavioural patterns and way of life. If a Marwari is made fun of due to his money matter "Kanjoosi", a sindhi also is ridiculed for the same reason. Likewise Madrasis are ridiculed for Lungis they wear or for Tilak they put on their foreheads. Bengalis are ridiculed for their Rosogullas and Starched Kurtas and Dhotis. UP wala Bhaiyya is ridiculed for his cow milking. So each and every caste, community and creed has its own way of life and culture and therefore its own share of jokes and fun by others.
Though many a times jokes on Sikhs cross sense of decency, I have found many Sikhs who do make fun of themselves and join others while joking. In my view they are the ones who love to make fun of their own and its a sign of their broad minded ness. However there is nothing derogatory about Sikhs in general in real sense. They are one of the most colourful and "Jindadil" communities world over.

Its definitely wrong to have jokes on Sikhs or any other community for that matter...jokes are suppose to be enjoyed by all and should not hurt anyone..people who r sending these jokes are forgetting that our country is lead by a Sikh....But most people don't realise that the joke is on Sikhs..they just enjoy the joke...Anyway i thing we should put an end to these community targeted jokes.

1. Under-estimated in what sense? Sikhs are as human as anybody else - Masai or Alaskan. Moreover, Sikhs are generally respected as saint warriors. They are famous for being kind, jovial and determined.
2. Racial or communal jokes are in bad taste, be about Sikhs, Brahmans, Catholics or any other group.

Who gave you this foolish thought. As far as I know they are intelligent, hard working, energetic and a tolerant lot. There are many Indian jokes centered around the sikhs because they are a resourceful lot and can take any joke with a sportsman spirit.

Sikhs are brave and courageous. They keep a sharp brain under their turbans. It is totally wrong to have them as center of jokes unless they themselves agree to it in humour or friendly atmosphere.

Of course not. Infact I appreciate that they have a great sense of humour and do not retaliate to jokes made about them. Some of their own make jokes about their own community and it is rare to see this within all communities. Without them, we wouldn't be able to spread some laughter. Hats off to them. It would be good if people of other communities would be as easy-going.

Yes, but I heard that a Sikh himself is writing the jokes.
I think they're broad minded and 've a good humour sense.
They excell in AIEEE, AIIMS, IIT, ICS and many competitive exams too.
I really admire them.

may be sikhs are not underestimated but they are made a laughing stock by having them as acentre of joke .people sometimes say that 'sardar ke 12 baj gaye' and all other stuff. which shows that person saying those things himself is insane.

They are understood as any other hard working and fun loving people.Jokes do exist on any or every relegion and society. However it is wrong to publish jokes targetting them only.We should follow the secular formula in this too and give representation to all.
