Doesn't matter what you do on the internet, you MUST have security at all times!

I recommend AVG as an anti virus, although eTrust's 12 month free trial is excellent.
If you need other programs, go for Zone Alarm firewall, AVG anti spyware (formerly Ewido) and SpywareBlaster.
If you click on the names in that list I gave you and it will take you to the official download site.
Please ensure that you keep them all updated for full protection and check for any updates when you first download them.

Use the services that go along with your paid ISP. You didn't say what operating system is on this new eMachine, so it's difficult to tell you how to get rid of Google services. Normally, you would go into the control panel and to add/remove services, and uninstall Google as an ISP, and the antivirus/spyware that goes along with it. It is already installed on the machine, it hasn't been activated, and that's what they are trying to get you to do. To stop the annoying reminders, you need to uninstall the annoying program.

No you don't have to use the free security software. However
you Do Need Anti Virus Protection at all times, if you are
going to connect to the Internet. If you're not going to use the
trial version, make sure it is not installed. Then go ahead and
use the software provided by your Internet service provider.

You have to have anti virus, spyware, firewall, etc because any of the e-mail accounts use the internet to access or send and receive mail!
Whatever Comcast or AOL or any service provider has does nothing if it isn't installed on your machine! It's bogus sales garbage! You live in Corporate America so you should be atuned to the fact that most advertising is aburd! They'll tell you anything to sell you something!

Whenever you are connected to the internet, whether you go to any web site or not, a hacker could break into your machine and do all sorts of damage. The only way to avoid this is to have no internet connection at all; Comcast and Yahoo make no difference, just being connected is all that matters.

If you have set up your new PC and registerd with BT Yahoo they should supply you with free security software, but if you think that it is not doing it job so well then install the software that came with you new PC. If the PC tells you that the security software is out of date and there is no update for it...you might have to go to a computers store and get advice on a reliable security software. You could download it on the net....but be careful it could slow down your PC'S performance.

If you use antivirus software from your internet service provide, uninstall the free program that came with the emachines....probably norton.....
Use the add/remove programs to uninstall the free version. You dont want to run more than 1 antivirus software anyway, they tend to conflict with each other and can crash your computer....

No . Any one good quality resident anti-virus and any one good quality resident anti-spyware will do fine. I'd suggest supplementing those with a number of non-resident spy/adware scanners since each of them will catch different programs.
It sounds like you're already practicing safe hex.
