There is something wrong with the poor thing. Animals dont act that way to make a mess. Only teenagers do that ;-) talk to your vet. I am sure there may be something wrong with your pet or change the food that may help. Try giving him alittle water veggie or can they eat watermelon? It sounds like a medical problem. Please dear God do not let me come back as a pet they cant talk for themselves and they always are at our mercy. So talk to your vet please.

Excessive drinking is called polydipsia. Polydipsia often occurs in response to a blood sugar problem like diabetes. If you are sharing your junk food with the hampster this can cause a blood sugar problem or perhaps the hampster is just naturally diabetic.

Also animals get obsessive-compulsive about things sometimes. The hampster may just have formed the 'habit' of waiting for water like a reward. Try putting in a wheel or even feed it a carrot slice to distract it from emptying the water bottle as a form of retraining.

try putting water in a bowl. I've never seen that, but mine never liked the bottle (they tried to take it off and just wouldn't drink from it)
Oh and make sure your feeding him plenty of vegetables.
I've never taken any of my rodents to the vets because here there's not much that can be done and usually they're just to small to be treated.

maybe he does not like the size of the bottle. Get a little smaller one, and see if he still does it. If he continues, may want to call a vet`s office and ask.

It is not normal for your hamster to be drinking vast amounts like that... extreame intake of liquids usually indicate problems with the kidneys. you should take your pet to the vets hun.

good luck

Maybe it is really bored? Make sure you have enough in the cage to keep it busy...like a running wheel, or whatever it is they sell for hampsters at the pet store.

is it in o heated room? it could be dehydrated and thats why its drinking all the time, if not it may have diabetes but you would have to take it to the vets to rule out anything

be careful. hamster might get diabetes like human too if you don't feed them the right diet (human food, sweets, cookies etc.) they have the same syndrome like diabetes in human (keep drinking water. urinate everywhere...)

are you sure you feed him hamsters food? but sometimes it (diabetes) can due to genetic defect.

Sometimes that can be a sign of age... they usually drink a lot of water if they're close to passing on... I hate to put it to you, although, it could be something else.
