Frankly I wouldn't bother. Printed backgrounds don't come out very well unless you use an expensive paper so you may as well buy professionally printed ones from a craft shop.

You don't need to cover the card with a background just cover the leading edge with a strip or wrap a strip around the folded edge or a triangle across the front or a rectangle in the centre or otherwise.. A peel off line can be used to mask the join to the card.

There are now some Paper Nation rubber stamps matching the Paper Nation background papers (which are in A4) and there are numerous lovely papers in 6x6, 8x8 and 12x12 scrapbookers papers.

I'm assuming that the surface pattern you want is on a cd.
There are two ways of doing it.
1. Open the pattern in an image editing program (photoshop or something similar) and resize it to fit an A4 sheet. (210 mm x 297 mm). Make sure to check your resolution (a good, basic, print resolution should be about 200 dots per inch)
In Photoshop the commands would be image>imagesize this will bring up a dialogue box where you can enter the values you need.
2. Altering the output size. If you go to your print preferences or page setup (usually in the file menu) you will get a dialog box that allows you to alter the printer settings. Within that will be the output size. If you select A4 and tell the computer to scale the image to fit media then it will automatically stretch/enlarge or squash the image to fit.
Remember that most printers will not print to the edge of the paper and so will leave (usually) a 5 mm border.
All of these topics will be in the appropriate help files conected with the software you are using.

You might try checking the print settings or options - if you are working in word have a look at the advanced settings to see if you can enlarge it. There may also be an option to 'fill page' or something similar. Good luck.
