By camouflage animal gaurds themselves against their enemies by having protective colouration and sometimes even shape that matches its surroundings and thus animal is not easily seen.

It is not that they need camoflauge, but that by natural selection they have been chosen genetically to express those phenotypes, in turn making them harder to spot for a predator, which makes for reproductive success, which means their genes are passed on. Nature selects, by a nonrandom process, whose genes are the best (genetics is a random process as far as benefitial mutations. For every benefitial mutation their are usually far more harmful mutations, thats why it takes 3 billion years to get the diversity we have today.
