I'm a 22 year old woman and I want to lose about 10 kilos. If I swim daily and eat well, will I be able to lose weight? Is swimming considered cardio? I also want to tone up but I don't want to bulk up and get all muscley. I am planning on swimming daily as well as a few aerobics sessions a week, will these exercises make me lose weight? P.s I will be eating a healthy low-calorie diet also.

Swimming is an excellent form of exercise. Because the density of the human body is approximately similar to that of water, the body is supported by the water and less stress is therefore placed on joints and bones.

Strengthening the muscles involved in respiration, to facilitate the flow of air in and out of the lungs,

Strengthening and enlarging the heart muscle, to improve its pumping efficiency and reduce the resting heart rate,

Toning muscles throughout the body, which can improve overall circulation and reduce blood pressure,

Increasing the total number of red blood cells in the body, to facilitate transport of oxygen throughout the body,

Increased storage of energy molecules such as fats and carbohydrates within the muscles, allowing for increased endurance,

Good Question. I've asked the same thing. This is what I learned: 1. You might lose some weight 2. You have to swim about 1 hour straight, giving it, to make it aerobic/cardio. 3. Its awesome for toning,(really there is little even not weight lifting that if done right will bulk you up and make you look like he-man) 4. It sounds to me like a good plan to eat well, but don't worry so much about low-calorie, concentrate on high quality, ie. veggies, whole grains and lean meats, fish etc. 5. I remember being told something about swimming and its obvious benefits for low-resistance and toning, BUT some how I remember something about it not being the optimal sport to "lose weight", something about water keeping your core temperature down. I only remember this because I remember someone saying "hey just take a look at whales". Silly but somehow a note of truth to it. Maybe the aerobics or walking should be every day and the swimming a few days a week. Just an idea. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi there,
Yoga can be a great friend in every diet. It's all about hormones balance. There are no "bad" hormones. But when hormones get unbalanced, bad things happen in your body. Your body releases cortisol when you're under stress. It's part of the whole “fight or flight” response. Increased cortisol levels could be making you fat. The kind of fat you are most likely to store from elevated cortisol is called visceral fat — the dangerous belly fat that’s linked to diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.

I'm following this great online program that teaches how to use YOGA to lose weight. You should check it out as well. This is the link of the site: http://yogafitness.toptips.org

Yes! You will definitly get in shape doing this. I was on a swim team one summer in high school and lost twenty pounds, without dieting or extra exercising. Swimming is a great exercise becuase you work your entire body. Swimmers have nice lean muscles.
Good luck!

Absolutely! This is a very good cardio exercise that works nearly all your muscles and will definitely tone your body rather than bulk you up! Its actually one of the best toning exercises, and its fun too!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

In fact, you probably couldn't have picked anything better than swimming!

It's easy on your joints because of the bouyancy (not like jogging)!

Whenever I go swimming I always sleep and eat VERY well afterwards!
