You are right, politicians can talk about running things, but are useless at actually running things. They deliberately under estimated the cost originally so as not to frighten people. Their latest excuse for cost overruns is, ah well, we are regenerating the area as well. That was always going to be essential.

In recent years, like most other things, the Olympics has become politically correct, all sports must be represented in the interests of inclusiveness. Even those where there already exits a world stage for that particular sport, eg. Tennis, Football etc. Whatever happened to strongest, fastest, longest, highest. There are far too many sports and events represented nowadays, and the original Olympic ideal of amateurism, now lost. I have a particular downer on team events, how do you judge each individual performance? Also, events where artistic skill is involved, and the marking therefore, subjective, eg. trampolining, diving, and many other similar events. In fact, they are not really sports, but more artistic spectacles, or entertainment.

There should be a permanent site erected, say Athens, to avoid the ridiculous cost of different countries competing to upstage each other every four years.

Better you than us. They're now talking about how the Chinese want to destroy our economy...and have the ability to do it. At least with the Olympics you have some chance of recouping some of that money. With the Chinese we're just up to our ears in chopsticks...and we're unemployed.
