I know ... and then they wonder that their kids don't have the concentration to study and end up criminals or in dead-end jobs.
But in fairness, most parents have to work and aren't there to make sure the kids eat properly.

Some are lazy or irresponsible parents; whilst for others who earn close to the minimum wage, these cheap foodstuffs are probably just enough to subsist on. Others might like the convenience and accessibility of the said foods, so ultimately it's a matter of choice I'd think. Of course, not everybody does know what goes into these foods, or they think that the risk of contracting illnesses is not enough of a deterrent to prevent them from eating them.

Perhaps it's because we no longer teach cookery at school. I taught food technology for a while and was disgusted that it seemed to be a subject purely designed to churn out factory fodder (no pun intended). The kids learned how to design and prepare a 'convenience' food, follow the means of production and distribution, packaging etc, but nowhere on the curriculum was there anything about managing a weekly food budget to produce healthy, nutritious wholesome food for a family. I gave it up as I felt I was waging a losing battle. Kids need to learn about food and what it does to them, only then will they be able to make informed choices about what they eat. Plus, the parents need educating.

Sometimes that's all they can afford to buy or their own mothers fed them this and they think it's good enough for their kids,Not everyone has a clue when it comes to nutrition they need to be taught, there is enough advertisement about healthy food going round that it should be really hard for then to miss it, The kids are also educated in school about nutrition so maybe they like junk food or are too lazy to bother cooking their kids good home cooked food with veg and fruit,
My kids are fed three good meals a day wit fruit in between they only get sweets, crisps and fizzy drinks at the weekend but in moderation they are both fit healthy happy and have no dental problems so it seems to me it's down to the way the parents are educated on their kids health and lifestyles.I can say that my kids get the best food as we can afford to buy the good stuff and not junk ,sometimes the parents are on low income or living off the government for money which isn't much.

It's cheap and that's what a lot of parents care about.
It's all about money.
However there are a lot of decent parents that won't let their children eat that stuff.

Peer pressure. The kids want to eat the same junk foods their friends do. It's easier to go that route than to argue and fight with their kids.
