To avoid plagiarism, you need to give credit to the original work. Saying it in a different way is still plagiarism.

Changing a sentence doesn't prevent plagiarism! It is merely an attempt to hide it. It doesn't work. You have to present ideas that you wrote, not just copied.
def - "to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own : use (a created production) without crediting the source vi: to commit literary theft: present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source"

Technically, plagiarism is not only taking a direct quote from another source, it's also taking ideas from another source.

The best way to avoid plagiarism is to give credit to your source - whether you change the quote or not.

Read the original work, then read another on the same subject. Then read another, and another, and another - until you actually LEARN something. Then, take what you have learned, and write your own sentences.

If the lines are so good, why not just refer to them with quotes and a citation in your bibliography? That's part of a good report... The report is not for you to figure out how to say everything good by yourself, don't forget... Part of the skills of a reporter is to be able to accurately report and represent the facts, and so if there is something that does an all-too-good job of that, don't be afraid to cite it in your article! :)

no, just use your brain!! and, just in case you dont know, if you use 3 or more words in a row from someone without quoting, it's plagiarism.
