I've seen that term used before actually. It means a 'clean bill' literally. Like a clean bill of health.

Chit = bill, voucher, receipt, note

So it can also be used in meanings like 'clean record', 'clean slate'., etc. Or if you paid off all your remaining balances then you'd have a 'clean tab'.

there is no english expression "clean chit".

There is, however, one which is "Clean Sheet", which I'm guessing is what you mean. Sorry if I'm wrong!

The expression "clean sheet" refers to a person's driving or criminal record and it means exactly what it says - that there is nothing on their sheet of paper, or file! In other words, they've never done anything which has brought them to the notice of the authorities - the police and traffic bureaus have nothing in their files indicating wrongdoing.
