If you use Microsoft Windows as a file server; On a network share , there is no recycle bin, so they are gone. However, if there are backup tapes, you have no way to delete them, and your boss can request to have your directory restored to a private location for his or her perusal.
Also if your network administration has implemented VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Services) There may be several copies still available. Ask your network Admin if you can recover a document you are working on using VSS.
Good luck with that new job.

When you delete a file, the data remains on the disc. All that was done was the file and address of the storage was changed on the FAT table. Until new files are saved (over the old file so the data can not be recovered) the information remains on the drive, but not accessable through normal means.

Doing a system restore, does not touch any software documents added or removed prior to the restore. System restore is performed when hardware errors occur which may cause your machine to not run corrdctly or boot correctly.
The system will hold 'ghost' copies, but only proper IT technicians will know how to access these. Word of advice, how about not doing it again? lol

When you say your boss has access to them, do you mean this is a network drive? If it is, you have little chance of getting it back easily except by restoring from the previous night's tape, if your company backs up the server each night.

With my old MS Word, there are back up copies (name.wbk). I would try Search, Documents for *.wbk and *.doc (in case you moved them somewhere else).
