Check out kbtoys.com - you can narrow down you search based on age, gender, likes, dislikes - recommendations for a 15 year old boy into gadgets included MP3 players, the funky speaker systems for the mp3 players, digital cameras, funky electronic games. You can even narrow down by price. I've used this a few times for getting gifts for nieces and nephews, with great results.

A miniature hamster. I had one when I was that age and had a lot of fun with it. They are incredibly curious and you can get all those plastic tunnels and toys that can make some fun things. I would also build it mazes and obstacles out of toilet paper tubes and tissue boxes. It loved running around looking for sunflower seeds I'd hide for it all around. They're really friendly little critters and a bunch of fun. They are also very low maintenance which it nice.I would only have to clean out it's cage every month or so and it would only need its water bottle refilled once a week.
