Ciao Ciliegina!
Premetto che sono apartitico.
My vote goes to Fausto Bertinotti (Rifondazione Comunista). Why? As a regular viewer of Annozero and Ballaro', I am quite familiar with all the major figures of Italian politics. I am constantly impressed with Bertinotti's sincerity and, above all, his "coerenza" (the nearest word in English is "integrity"). He says what he means, he means what he says, he is very intelligent and talks a lot of sense (even though I don't necessarily agree with him), he doesn't descend to insults with his opponents, he tries to engage in constructive dialogue with the people who disagree with him, but most importantly of all, he doesn't keep changing sides for cynical advantage like so many of the others. I also have a lot of time for Piero Fassino. He too is sincere and intelligent. He is very calm and inspires confidence. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for Romano Prodi - he seems to have very little personality and I don't like the way he's given in to the Americans over the base at Vicenza - what's socialist about that?! I must also admit to a certain amount of affection for Silvio Berlusconi - he really did try to get things changed in Italy and he has a great, self-deprecating sense of humour that really appeals to me and all the other English people I've talked to about him. What other Prime Minister in the world would ever have let himself be seen wearing a bandana and crooning a Neapolitan ballad of his own composition? He's a funny guy, I like him and, for all his faults, I think he was a better Prime Minister than Mr Prodi. But unfortunately, you need more than a good sense of humour to be a great politician, and I fear that some of Mr Berlusconi's more ill-considered statements did cause considerable damage to Italy's international standing.
Sono italo-inglese e partecipo anche ad Answers Italia - sempre con lo stesso nick! E tu, chi preferisci? Bella domanda, complimenti! Mi dispiace per l'ignoranza dei miei compaesani, ampiamente dimostrata qui.
Ciao!
Cosimo
