I have a business opportunity to start a national chain of Feminist bookstores called "Sappho's Closet." Along with the normal outlets of San Francisco and Boston, we are thinking of opening stores in Huntsville, Alabama; Casper, Wyoming; Peoria, Illinois; and Altoona, Pennsylvania. I am not sure about this, but I think it is time to open the eyes of fellow Americans. What do you think?

alot of women read it's an excape for some others it may be what's lacking in life of it may be the fantasy

there are alot of good thingsthat could become of your store and there are lot of different things you could do

hold a book meeting once or twice (like a book club) so readers can share what their books were like and maybe it would lead to more puchases after the meeting

there is alot of ideas for this type of investment i would say go for it

You can't open eyes that don't want to be opened. As with any investment you must way cost/ benefits and determine if there's a viable market out there. San Fran I'm sure has a significant market but I imagine the competition is rough, you're not the first the associate San Fran and feminism. Huntsville and Casper have a significant conservative population base which may limit your market.

By labeling a bookstore feminist you are not encompassing the varied structures within the actual ideals of equality. There are many branches of feminism and chances are most mainstream book chains carry a large amount of books devoted to equality and humanism anyway. Most people don't know who Sappho is anyway and since you are denigrating the fact that she is a lesbian and you always align your belief that feminists are automatically gay then your bookstore would not be politically correct and it would be quickly debunked as being simply a crank much like it's owner.

I believe it would be a risk. Feminism is nothing new. My advice.... be safe invest in a bookstore and include a feminist category. Good luck.

this is a niche, it would be risky it's not that big of a market... I don't like feminists but here's my advice.. do it online, the investment is not so big and you reach farther, if one store doesn't work you don't lose money, and you don't pay salaries.
