It sounds like you're using metal music as a catharsis
Catharsis means purge, to expel, as if to vomit out something unhealthy. Think of your metal music of a way to emotionally vomit out all of your bad feelings. You're feeling them when you're listening but you're getting them out, you're dealing with them, and that's good.
The metal you're listening to might just be your way of identifying with your emotions and venting your anger and frustration.
Aristotle the philosopher believed that music was a great catharsis.
If you stay away from metal, you might not be purging those emotions but suppressing them, and that is unhealthy.
However, if you're more angry and sad after the music is off and it lasts with you through the day, then the music might be influencing your mood, and only then should you think about staying away from it.

I honestly don't see how it could be unhealthy. Listening to music is good for you. If it helps you through times than thats great. I listen to different kinds of music depending on the mood im in. So no, it's not unhealthy.

I think i know your state as i can relate
Cause of your shyness this may cause some form of negativity which makes u feel sad and confused this then turns into anger or wanting to feel superior to face your problems, so music can help that and make you more emotional
Dont worry its a good thing ive been doing it for years and it helps the shyness

Personally I feel this is a bad thing as it encourages angry thinking, which can lead to aggression.
Do you put it on because you WANT to feel angry/sad, or because you ARE angry/sad?
If you are feeling angry/sad, then try listening to something soothing. You may need to re-train your mind. I find that I like classical music - Vivaldi is my favourite - to relax to, or sometimes Josh Groban. Find something calming - anger is also bad for your health!

HELL NO! It is a good outlet... I am big on Lamb of God, Meshuggah, et cetera ... and I just tear holes in the universe with my rage... not people. Positive difference.
