I know they are an option to substitute hashbrowns for at Denny's but no waiter/waitress has ever been able to tell me what they are... I think they're made from crushed up corn or something. And if you've tried them, are they good? Should I get them next I'm at Dennys?

You are exactly right!!!!!!!!!!!!...

"Grits is a type of maize porridge and a food common in the Southern United States consisting of coarsely ground corn. It also has a lesser resemblence to farina, a thinner porridge. Also can be made with fermented plantains; coarsely ground."

Being from the southeastern U.S., I have eaten my weight in grits. I personally like them with sugar, while other like them with butter, honey, maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, or everything mentioned together. I am sure others who answer your question will submit their own recipe for how they like their Grits!!

They are made from corn. You boil them up for about 20 minutes, serve with butter and salt.

All I know is to tell someone that you're miffed at to " kiss my grits". What a grit is, I have no idea. I don't think I want to taste a grit. Even the word "grit" sounds yucky!
