hi
1 and a thrid is equal to 1.3333 recurrant, which means the 3 will keep recurring. on a calculator (scientific) if you want to find 1 and a third look for a button (usually above the numbers) that has A b/c. this button is used to convert fractions 1 1/3 to standard numbers 1.333333
to enter 1 1/3 press 1 a b/c 1 a b/c 3 which on a calculator should look something like this 1¬1¬3 if you press the a b/c button again it will automatically convert to numbers and back to fraction form if presses again

on a standard calculator the important part is to find out what 1/3 is. enter 1 divided by 3 = 0.333333
1 + 0.333333 = 1.333333 hence 1 1/3

again the same should be done to find 1 3/4 as with any other fraction

on a standard calculator 1 divided by 4 (denominator) multiply by 3 (numerator) = 0.75
0.75 +1 (whole number) = 1.75

1 a b/c 3 a b/c 4
1¬3¬4
press a b/c = 1.75
press a b/c = 1¬3¬4

in the second case you will need to consider the 3 (numerator) as if will affect your answer. it means you've got 3 part of 1/4 whereas if it were 1/4 it would mean you've got 1 part of 1/4

3/1 x 1/4
= (3 x 1) / 1 x 4)
= 3/4

1/1 x 1/4
= (1 x1) / (1 x 4)
= 1/4

One third is 1 divided by 3. Enter 1 on the calculator then use the divide sign then enter 3 and then use the equals sign. This gives the sum of 0.333333333. Round this down to 4 digits or 0.3333. One and a third is then 1 plus 0.3333 which becomes 1.3333. To answer your question enter 7.5 then times (X) 1.3333 then equals and the answer is £10.00 per hour.

Divide 7.5 by 3 to give you one third. Add that to 7.5 or multiply the third by four as you want to know 4 thirds.

i.e. (7.5 / 3) * 4

to find one and three quarters (or 7 quarters is another way of saying it)

(7.5 / 4) * 7
