What do you mean here by Intranet?
if you mean a small group of Computers interconnected like in college /office or some organizational houses .then The only limitation is your cut off from the Internet . this is Not Ideally possible though as every network is connected to the Internet by one way or the other (until completely isolated by Admins )...!!!

Else there is no limitation in terms of Functionality.

Other limitations may crop up based on the Technology used for the Intranet : Like the topology,Cable types(co-axial,fibre etc ), protocols used etc can produce certain limitations, but i havent heard of any which have not been resolved by experts.
