It depends on how long you have had your licence. I am able to drive loads of different groups because I passed my test about 15 years ago, friends who have only recently passed though are only allowed to drive a few things.
It should say on the back of your licence which groups you are entitled to drive.

with a normal full UK licence you can drive any vehicle under 3.5t, if you passed your test before 01/01/1999 then you can drive any vehicle up to 7.5t

if you passed your test before 1997 then you can drive anything up to 7.5 tons and other modes like road sweepers and farm equipment.
if you passed your test after 1997 then the most you can go up to is 3.5 tons plus you need to take a test for pulling trailers and farm machinery etc

check on your paper copy and it will tell you which classes of vehicle you are entitled to drive
