My car is a Mitsubishi 1.3 engine fully automatic. I love everything about this car as it is my first car but I get desperate sometimes when I am in a 6 lane superhighway during busy hours. I could not easily change lane from a fully stopped lane to the next empty lane as I am afraid that the oncoming cars at the back running 100 kph might hit me before I can gain speed. Can I use any of these gears so that I can get a faster pick up speed? Please help.

L is the lowest gear in your trans. and will get your engine RPMs higher the fastest and also gives you the fastest pickup in speed .
Practice in a parking lot some evening when it is almost empty doing what they call "manual shifting " with your transmission.
Stop......... Put the trans in L.........step on the throttle........shift to 2.............step on it more.............shift to 3...........and away you go !..............
Listen to the sound of your engine or watch the tach on the dash . you should get the hang of it pretty fast . BUT don't try it in traffic untill you get really good and smooth with it.

I don't think you can use them that way, because you do not have a clutch. The L, or Low gear, is for climbing hills. Now, I will use 2 or 3 in snow so that the wheels do not spin too quickly causing a spin-out. Wish I knew more...
