I would say the Spurs.

I read an article about the Mavs and the Suns who wanted the 1st spot so bad because the 2nd spot will more likely take on the Spurs in the 2nd round. And neither team wants that.

Phoenix is an offensive team while San Antonio is much more defensive. I think that's why the Spurs can be a little harder to beat than the Suns, since it's easier to outscore a team than playing hard defense and getting to the lane.

Remember when it was the Lakers and the Pistons? Same scenario. When it came down to Pistons and Spurs, it was another story, since they were both really good defensive team.

Plus, the difference between Detroit and San Antonio is that the Spurs do have a good offense as well. With Tony Parker having a great season so far, you can expect them to be a serious contender in this year's playoffs.

On their side, the Suns have a better record because they can score. On the defensive end though, there is still a lack of something. But, as long as they can outscore you, it will be ok for them.

Remember the All-Star game and how many points the West made? Well, every player was saying "we play Suns' basketball"... And D'Antoni was the coach.

This is why I think the Spurs are harder to beat in a playoff situation.

San Antonio Spurs. They got the experience and also have a more complete game than the Suns. They don't just run and can play good defence. Also with Manu off the bench playing so well, I think they are harder to beat in playoffs.

San Antonio, In the playoffs you have the top teams and they're top teams because they play defense. The style of play also slows down after the first round and it becomes a half court game. Since the late 70's all the teams that won championships except for Chicago had a dominant big man (especially in the half court game) from Kareem, Moses, Shaq, Akeem, Duncan, Mc hale and Parrish, Lambier and Mahorn. Not seven footers shooting 3's (Dirk) and running up and down the court dunking (Amare or KG). So the history would lean towards the Spurs (3-Time Champs).

For this question, let's look back a couple of years ago in the NBA Western Conference Finals. The Spurs have defeated the Suns in 5 games, even nearly sweeping them. What has changed? The two teams rosters have not changed, I don't think any major staff and management team changes were made, and their records are still going to be 50-60+ wins. Nothing has changed except the experience.
I think that the Suns have improved in terms of the intangibles. They play with heart and passion now, as their victory in Dallas three days ago would attest. The Spurs still have experience and they still have skill. I am looking forward to this matchup and I feel that it will be much closer this time around. I feel that this series may reach a seventh game.

San Antonio...

the Spurs has a deeper bench... Pop made sure that his team has debt in talent... The suns are a more offensive team which fits well in facing what I think is the best defensive team in the NBA. The Spurs has experience and a lot of heart... They're not a selfish team...

I think the Suns right now are harder not beat
Nash is amazing this year again and Amare Stoudemire is back from injury. I think if one the starting five gets hurt like the past 2 years, they probably will loose though like they have been.
Overall, I think the Spurs are a better team though but I cannot deny that Phoenix is impressive

San Antonio.

both teams have their pros and cons.

the suns are up tempo offence. if u cant run with them, or defend them, ur in trouble. they have a lot of versatile players that fit their role nicely within the team

the spurs are very strong defensively and have players stepping up when something needs to get done.

overall its very hard to choose between the two. however one would have to argue that the Spurs are the better team. it all comes down to their defensive abilities, their experience, and their coach. the spurs would look to slow down the uptempo suns game and make them play san antonio style basketball

The Spurs. Because they play great defense and have a number of players who can step up their play. But most importantly, they have been there. They have been to the finals, they have won a championship, they know what it takes to win it all. San Antonio will impose it's low scoring will on you every time with its terrific defense and great execution.

that's a very hard and interesting question...I think it all depends on how your team matches up with these teams. It will be terribly hard to keep up with the pace of the suns offense but if you can shut them down and stop them from getting into a flow you may be able to defeat them. As for spurs they are one of the best (if not the best) defensive team in the league and any team would dread playing them in a seven game series.
