I started having contractions 5 minutes apart at 9:30 last night, checked into the hospital around 12:30, and was found to be no further dilated than I was a couple days ago, possibly even less so! The nurse had me walk for half an hour to see if that helped any, but when she checked me again, she couldn't even get her fingers as far as earlier. She gave me a shot to help with the pain and sent me home, but it doesn't appear that the shot helped anything at all except to make me very dizzy. Four hours later, I'm extremely shakey and I think I got a little relief through three contractions, and now it's back to absolutely as painful as I can take, and still only five minutes apart. My labor is obviously going incredibly slow (... if at all?) and I'm at my limit, so I don't know what to do now?

I went into premature labor with my youngest at 27 weeks. From experience and form the description you gave the shot they gave you was probably Brethine. I was on it constantly from the time I started premature labor until I had her. The day I finally had her I was in the maternity ward at 6 a.m. because I felt a "rush" of fluid. I was having contractions but I was not anymore dilated, just like you. They sent me home against their better judgment but my doctor ordered it. I came home, ate lunch and by noon was back in there with stronger contractions. I delivered a few hours later. I know it makes you feel like a fool going in there repeatedly and being sent home, but it doesn't matter. Go anyway. Cervical dilation can happen very quickly or very slowly. You can jump from 2 to 5 centimeters in only an hour or less. Don't let yourself feel stupid, do what YOU feel is best. If you can handle the contractions, wait it out a little more. If you don't feel you can, GO BACK and let them check you again. The Brethine is supposed to stop the contractions and it did with me. If you are full term and you are in labor and the baby is ready, it won't work. Go back to the hospital.

I have 3 kids and sometimes it does take a long time.. Walk, walk, walk. Put on some music to help take your mind off of things. Soak for awhile in the tub in warm water, not hot. That is if you can get down into the tub. Have someone give you a back massage. It is hard but try to carry on with some of your normal activities that aren't to strenuous. Wash up some laundry or something similar. Prepare stuff ready for the baby. You know, what it will come home in . Get another back massage. Just keep moving, slowly. This will help some. Have a light meal, maybe some fruit. I agree, if in hard labor you would not be at the computer.

Have your waters broken? If so, call an ambulance and refuse to leave the hospital!

Do you have someone to keep you company?

Has the baby been checked? If you are concerned, then request an ultrasound.

What do you mean by "no further dilated than I was a couple of days ago"? If you've been in labour for a couple of days, then you should have an obstetrician check things out for you.

You could try phoning the maternity ward at the hospital and asking for advice, or just go in and let them know you're concerned.

I'll be praying for you.

Go back to hospital. Even if it takes a couple of days to deliver, you should be there. Anything can happen at any moment, the doctors must be checking you. I am sure everything will be fine, but you must be in the hospital. Also, talk with the doctor, the nurse is experienced but she is not a doctor. Talk to the doctor maybe he/she will decide to induce labour or even do a cesarian.

Especially if the water has broken, you must go there immediately and refuse to leave!

Find something in the room that you like to look at. Concentrate on your breathing(slow and even,in thru your nose, out thru your mouth, each to a slow count to 5. Now tell(you know what I mean) the muscles and tendons (starting at your feet) to relax. When your feet ate relaxed, then move up your legs all the way to the top of your head. Try to do this during your 5min break time so you can hopefully be relaxed enough to feel the difference during your contraction. Have a GREAT life...MOM(LOL!)

probably if you were able to sit here and type this youre fine. i was in labor with my 1st son for 3 days, and was only dialated to 2 cm for the whole time. it wasnt until the 3rd night (and contractions every couple min) that i was finally 5 cm and they admitted me. plus, i had back labor, which was EXTREMELY painful. like a charlie horse in your back. if they get really bad just go back to the hospital. it doesnt make you bad. all they can do is send you home. heck, maybe they'll get so tired of you going in they'll finally keep you! :) good luck.

Climb in to a hot bath and phone any of your friends or relatives. You can not be alone right now. The hot bath will sooth the pain.

Hope every thing goes fine

i would advise you not to be at home, Stay in the hosiptal for a few days... and try not to be alone at all if you cannot go to the hosiptal and have to stay home, Because sometimes you can be in labor for almost 2 days but most women dont know it. Please go to the hosiptal and stay there.

If you were truly in hard labor -- you wouldn't have even thought about Yahoo Answers.

2 oz castor oil, OJ, and vanilla ice cream will help your labor along. Midwives remedy.
