It's not the nicest part of London, but it's cheap(ish).

If you want to live somewhere alternative, try East London, but round the Brick Lane area.

Thought Acton was East London. Everywhere is safe do not be scared off by media allusions.

I suggest south of the river, perhaps Bromley or Bexleyheath. Lower property prices and better facilities.
