I am 39 weeks pregnant and during the past 2 days I have been getting thick snot type discharge on my toilet tissue ( Sorry!) I was wondering once it all comes away does that mean that my contractions could start or my waters could break? How soon ?

Your water can break up between; usually; 5weeks early and 5 weeks late...so you could be. To me it sounds like you just lost your plug. you might want to call your dr. and find out for sure what they say! My friend had the same thing when she went into labor, and she wasnt sure what it was. but she only lost her plug a little at a time, they told her that it is something only very few women get, where you lose your plug slowly and slowly lose your water, which was her water breaking but it dribbled out! so you might be in the hospital for a little while if you have the same thing, she was in labor for almost (i think) 12 hours before she went to the hospital and then she was there for another 11 hours before they decided to do a c-section on her; she was to tiny to have her daughter natural! good luck and i hope this helps!

CONGRADULATIONS!

Don't get too excited. I lost my plug and it was like a week before I had the baby. I wanted it out soooooooooooooooo bad at that point. I was tired of being pregnant and just wanted to hold my baby. Is the discharge slightly bloody? If not, it is probably not your plug. Good Luck anyway.
