You might try carrying some small lizards with you. If you see a Velociraptor they will go after the little lizards first.
This might give you time to get away, but you're going to have to be quick. Velociraptor can run about 40 mph and pays no attention to traffic signals at all.
But unless you live in China or Mongolia you don't have to worry too much since that's where VR used to hang out.

Buy a Tyrannosaurus Rex in your nearest pet store and keep him in your back yard, I promise you will never be bothered with velociraptors

they don't like cold climates, but probably go north during the summers... perhaps if you live in a cold mountainous area, you can just avoid them altogther, but then there are tyranasaurs.. the problem is that we just look like food to them.
